Will Jennings, Layng Martine, Jr., Randy Owen (Alabama) and Jeffrey Steele will be inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in October, according to an announcement made today by the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Foundation (NaSHOF).
The four new inductees will join the 188 existing members of the elite organization when they are officially inducted during the 43rd Anniversary Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Dinner & Induction Ceremony on Sunday, October 13th at the Music City Center. AT&T will again be a sponsor of the event.
“Among all the great songwriters who have put the music in Music City, only a few are elected to the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame,” said Pat Alger, chair of the foundation’s board of directors. “This year we are delighted to bestow this honor upon Will Jennings and Jeffrey Steele in the songwriter category; Randy Owen in the songwriter/artist category, and Layng Martine, Jr. in the veteran songwriter category.”
Will Jennings’ songwriter credits include “Up Where We Belong” (Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes) and “My Heart Will Go On” (Celine Dion). Jeffrey Steele’s resume is known for “The Cowboy In Me” (Tim McGraw) and “What Hurts The Most” (Rascal Flatts). Layng Martine, Jr. is the tunesmith behind “Rub It In” (Billy “Crash” Craddock) and “The Greatest Man I Never Knew” (Reba McEntire). Alabama front-man Randy Owen popularized many of his own compositions with the band, such as “Feels So Right” and “Fallin’ Again.”
The Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame Dinner & Induction Ceremony is one of the music industry’s foremost events of the year. The evening features tributes and performances of the inductees’ songs by special guest artists. In recent years artists such as Garth Brooks, Jimmy Buffett, the Del McCoury Band, Emmylou Harris, Alan Jackson, Toby Keith, Barbara Mandrell, Michael McDonald, Ronnie Milsap, Blake Shelton, Marty Stuart, Taylor Swift, Steve Wariner, Gretchen Wilson and Trisha Yearwood have performed at or participated in the event. During the evening, NaSHOF’s sister organization, the Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI), presents its annual awards for the year’s Best Song, Songwriter and Songwriter/Artist, as well as the Top 10 “Songs I Wish I Had Written,” as determined by the professional songwriters division.
Tickets for the event are $225 each. Seats are available to the public and may be purchased (as available) by contacting event director Mark Ford at [email protected] or 615-256-3354.

One of country music’s most successful and influential groups of all time, ALABAMA, will release their highly anticipated new album, ALABAMA & Friends, on Tuesday, August 27 through Show Dog-Universal Music. The project is a tribute album, honoring the legendary group that helped change the face of country music.ALABAMA & Friends will feature some of country music’s hottest stars — all delivering their own unique versions of the multi-platinum-selling band’s biggest hits, including Jason Aldean (“Tennessee River”), Luke Bryan (“Love in the First Degree”), Kenny Chesney (“Lady Down on Love”), Eli Young Band (“The Closer You Get”), Florida Georgia Line (“I’m in a Hurry (And Don’t Know Why)”), Jamey Johnson (“My Home’s in Alabama”), Toby Keith (“She and I”),Rascal Flatts (“Old Flame”) and Trisha Yearwood (“Forever’s As Far As I’ll Go”).
The 11-song collection will also feature the band’s first new tracks in over 10 years – “All American” (written by Trey Bruce) and “That’s How I Was Raised” (written by Charley Stefl, Tony Ramey, Skip Sasser and Trent Tomlinson), which has the group teaming again with legendary producer Harold Shedd who worked closely with the group in their early years.
“It’s a storybook episode in my life and in the career of ALABAMA to have Harold on board and to see him as excited as we were after all these years,” says frontman Randy Owen.
The songs chosen for the project are among the most memorable in country music and will remind fans and the music industry alike why this Southern Rock/Country band broke so many sales records throughout their remarkable career. Their crossover appeal to country, rock and pop audiences and meteoric accomplishments set the bar high for those that have since followed.
“Our longevity is a tribute to the hard work we did in selecting songs, because it’s the songs that people remember,” says bassist Teddy Gentry.
“It’s very much an honor that they’d take part in an ALABAMA tribute,” guitarist Jeff Cook says of the acts included on the album. “We had a lot of fun working with them, and I think the finished product testifies to both the fun and the quality that went into it.”
After signing with RCA in 1980, ALABAMA soared to the top with 21 consecutive No. 1 hits, a feat that will most likely never be equaled in any genre. During their career, they have had more than 30 singles that have topped the country charts and have sold more than 73 million albums worldwide. They are one of the most celebrated groups, scoring more than 150 major industry nods, including two Grammys, the Minnie Pearl Humanitarian award, Entertainer of the Year awards three times from the CMA and five times from the ACM, as well as the ACM Artist of the Decade award. They have earned 21 Gold ®, Platinum ®, and Multi-Platinum ® albums and were named the RIAA’s Country Group of the Century.
Earlier this year, ALABAMA launched their Back to The Bowery Tour. The highly successful tour has consistently sold out many of its previously announced dates, resulting in the addition of several new shows along the way, including an upcoming performance on November 3 at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium. The Ryman date marks the very first time ALABAMA has performed a concert at the most famous former home of the Grand Ole Opry. Tickets to the Ryman concert will go on sale Friday, July 26 and will be available for purchase at all Ticketmaster outlets, the Ryman Box Office, 800-745-3000 and www.ryman.com.

After 40 years of making music, selling millions of records and performing for fans all over the world, country music’s most famed group ALABAMA will embark on a brand new tour to celebrate their very first concert at The Bowery in Myrtle Beach, SC. The Back to the Bowery Tour will launch in South Carolina and run throughout the year, making stops along the way in Alabama, Canada, Connecticut, Georgia, Miami, New York and more. Additional dates are expected to be announced soon. Tickets will go on sale in select markets beginning Friday, February 15. Pre-sale perks will be offered for fan club members and VIP tickets will also be available for each market. For more ticket information visit www.thealabamaband.com.
The Back to the Bowery tour marks the first time ALABAMA has announced an extensive run since 2002. To commemorate this special occasion, they have chosen to perform in smaller, more intimate rooms in an effort to create special up-close-and-personal memories for their fans.
“I’m so excited to celebrate 40 years since our first show at The Bowery,” says ALABAMA frontman, Randy Owen. “We still love one another, have played music together all these years, and are blessed to still be around. Most importantly, we are ever grateful for the fans, many having been with us since we used to play for tips, so to be able to go back out and play for them will make this a very special year.”
It was 1973 when Randy Owen, Teddy Gentry and Jeff Cook – who all hail from Ft. Payne, Alabama – landed their first ever residency, a summer-long gig playing at The Bowery as the house band. Within just a few years, ALABAMA honed in on their sound, and began to dominate the world of country music with hit after hit, including “If You’re Gonna Play in Texas (You Gotta Have a Fiddle in the Band),” “Song of the South,” “Love in the First Degree” and “Dixieland Delight.”
Their career to date has resulted in 21 Gold ®, Platinum ® and multi-Platinum ® albums, 43 number one singles and more than 73 million records in sales. They have received over 150 industry awards, including eight honors for Entertainer of the Year, two Grammy wins and two People’s Choice Awards, as well as their very own “star” on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The band received the Academy of Country Music’s Pioneer Award in 2003, was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 2005, and most recently won the American Country Awards’ “Greatest Hits” Award in 2011.
In addition to the tour and a new album slated for release later this year, ALABAMA will also embark on their very first musical cruise. The Alabama and Friends Festival at Sea – a four-night cruise from Miami to Nassau, Bahamas and Great Stirrup Cay – will set sail on October 24, 2013. For reservations and more information on the cruise visit www.alabamafestivalatsea.com.
