Over the course of his career, Capitol Records’ award-winning singer/songwriter Dierks Bentley has given fans behind-the-scenes access on the road, in the studio and even at home. But never before have fans seen him like they will in DIERKS BENTLEY: RISER, a film documenting the ups and downs following the death of his father through the birth of his first son - the story that inspired his upcoming seventh studio album RISER. Fans can preview a special edit of the film exclusively on CMT on Feb. 22 at 1:00P CT, and the full length will premiere the same day on Palladia at 8:00P CT. The project will also be available for purchase in the coming weeks.
“The two phrases ‘touring musician’ and ‘family man’ were never meant to go hand-in-hand…it’s just hard. It really hurts your heart to walk out the door on your kids. It’s like the two loves of your life pulling at you – your family and your love of music,” said Bentley. “I wanted this album to be that deeper look at who I am and who I try to be, and so I guess it's the same with this film too. The first time I watched the rough edit, I actually got physically uncomfortable because it's all in there…my whole life right there on the screen for the whole world to see."
Director Wes Edwards and multiple film crews shadowed Bentley over the course of the last two years, logging thousands of hours of tape, which were edited down by The Moving Pictures Boys (Nashville Docujournal, The Country Club Film) to the most pivotal moments. The film covers everything from the most quiet, pensive moments from Bentley's bunk on the tour bus to the rush of excitement in the delivery room for the birth of his son Knox, and it's all set to the soundtrack of the album that these events inspired.
"I knew Dierks was a dynamic performer and charismatic guy," said director Wes Edwards. "But, as a filmmaker it was a challenge to try and capture a portrait of a guy with so many different aspects to his life. He’s a guy who can bring an audience of twenty thousand to their feet and a guy you can have a beer with in a dive bar. He’s a guy that flies his own plane but uses a kitchen trash bag for luggage. I hope this documentary accurately captures the Dierks I’ve had the honor to get to know personally - a guy with serious work ethic, love for his family and genuine respect for the people around him. But most of all, I hope we are able to convey a true artist at work."
People has the first look of the film and fans can watch the trailer here: http://www.people.com/people/article/0,,20782894,00.html
Bentley will release his seventh studio album RISER on Feb. 25. To celebrate both the new album and film, he will host screenings over the course of the next few weeks in London, Los Angeles, Nashville, New York and Toronto. For more information on the film and the new album, visit www.dierks.com.

The thunderbird symbolism of Dierks Bentley’s upcoming seventh studio album RISER, available in stores Feb. 25, speaks volumes about the complex ball of emotions locked within. It’s a symbol of strength, resilience and renewal and one that appropriately reflects Bentley’s first album since the death of his father and the birth of his first son. Produced by Ross Copperman and Arturo Buenahora Jr, it's a project full of sonic power that has a strong sense of family and community.
The community of songwriters, musicians and artists that Bentley moved to Nashville with dreams of joining is ingrained in the texture of RISER. The now 11 time GRAMMY nominated singer/songwriter co-wrote six of the album's 12 tracks with some of the city’s most acclaimed writers and his friends. He also called on rising artists Kacey Musgraves, Chris Stapleton, The Cadillac Three's Jaren Johnston and Charlie Worsham to sing and play on the project.
“It’s important to really know the writers and musicians you work with, to hang out with them and live in the same world," Bentley explains. “I have such a romance with Nashville and this community. I drove across the country when I was 19 years old with a dream of just being invited to the party. It’s still wild to me that I get to work with and call so many incredibly talented people my friends.”
If the songs narrate the personal story of Bentley's previous two years, then it's the heightened depth and increased vulnerability in the lead vocals that make you truly feel its intense highs and lows. It comes in part from recording those performances in the Red Room, Copperman’s cozy home studio. Copperman was literally an arm’s length away, and Bentley got immediate feedback from a supportive-but-critical audience even as he breathed the words. It’s the closest Bentley has ever gotten to an elusive sonic attitude he’s sought from the outset.
“It’s the sound in my head that I hear when I’m playing a live show,” said Bentley. “You have one ear monitor in, one ear out, and the crowd’s there and your voice feels really great. There’s a certain amount of gravel to it because you’re tired, but you’re all jacked up on whatever you're drinking and adrenaline, and the crowds and the fans are there and there’s this feeling, fists in the air—it’s that thing that’s hard to transfer into a studio environment. There’s a rawness.”

Award winning singer/songwriter Dierks Bentley is amping up his 2014 tour schedule with the announcement yesterday that he will headline the 2014 RISER TOUR. The first leg will kick off May 9 in Charlotte, NC and continue through the summer with special guests Chris Young, Chase Rice and Jon Pardi. Fans can purchase tickets beginning Jan. 24 for select cities as part of tour promoter Live Nation’s Country Megaticket at www.Megaticket.com and additional ticket information will be available in the coming weeks at www.dierks.com.
“This tour is the culmination of everything I've been working on for the past two years, both out on the road and in the studio recording RISER,” said Bentley. "I know what my fans want: a kick ass show, an affordable ticket and a good parking lot scene to get the pre-gaming going! The guys opening the show and getting the party started all know how to put on a great live show, and when it comes time for my set, I can promise that we are going big! I have never been more excited about a tour.”
With ten years experience honing his stage skills, Bentley's live show continues to catch the attention of critics, who have called it “dynamic” and note his continued devotion to interacting with the fans and creating “a nearly nonstop, high energy affair heavy with hits” - (Reading Eagle).
“…it’s hard to imagine many country stars topping Bentley, who soon made use of every inch of his big two-tier stage. The Arizona native immediately incited the boisterous crowd with a trio of amped-up hits.” – The Oklahoman
“From the initial response from the crowd, he wasn't the only one who wanted to have a little fun. The Capitol recording artist continued to keep up the intensity throughout his performance, and with a long history at radio -- including ten number ones -- he was able to keep the hits coming." – Billboard
“His own energy level running flat out the whole time, Bentley used every square foot of the gigantic concert stage. Sometimes he’d start out singing at one end of it, and end up singing on a microphone at the other end, or up on risers at the back of the intricate stage set, or out at the end of the runway. He definitely gave the audience a show.” – Times Record News

Each of singer/songwriter Dierks Bentley's six previous albums has a unique sound reflecting his creative state of mind at that particular moment in time. The story continues on Feb. 25, 2014 when Bentley will release RISER, a country project grounded in lyrical substance with a new sonic power that spotlights Bentley's distinctive gravelly voice, one of the most original and recognizable in the genre.
“I named the album RISER because the lyrics in that song perfectly articulate who I want to be, who I try to be,” Bentley explains. “There's a lot of really intense material on this record, but there's also a lighter side that is equally important in telling the story of the last two years of my life. When I first started writing for this album, I was in a place of grief over the loss of my dad, but over the course of the next 18 months, my wife and I had our son Knox, and I ended in a place of real joy and gratefulness. Both sides of that coin are what country music has always been about, and I hope that my fans can feel how much of myself I put into this project. It's all out on the table, for sure.”
To assemble the new album, Bentley enlisted producer Ross Copperman and executive producer Arturo Buenahora, Jr. Together, the trio mixed the immediacy of old-school live recording techniques with the experimental nature of new technologies. Buenahora matched Bentley with the right co-writers and songs. The result is RISER – an album with a heightened depth, an increased vulnerability and a greater sense of purpose in every word.

RISER’s driving lead single “I Hold On,” a song that deftly pins spiritual questions to material symbols, is currently climbing the radio charts. Written by Bentley and Brett James, the track is drawing attention from other artists, critics and fans for its authenticity and emotion with Music Row calling it a "song that shakes you," and American Songwriter comparing the track to U2 with Bentley "rocking a little harder than most of contemporary country’s crooners."

I hope when people listen to it, they raise their beers up, but this time for the bigger idea of what we all stand for as country music fans…faith, love and freedom."
